Narrated history of the Osmer D. Flake Home
The Osmer D. Flake Home was constructed beginning in 1891 and the family moved in by 1893. Osmer Dennis Flake, born March 6, 1868, in Beaver, Utah, was the sixth child of William Jordan Flake and Lucy Hannah White. After marrying Elsie Owens in 1891, Osmer built this home of local burnt brick and lime mortar at the corner of Main Street and 2nd Street.
The original structure contained two large rooms on each floor. In 1900, Osmer hired Allen Frost to add a large kitchen, laundry room, pantry, dining room, and bedroom onto the east side of the house. The property passed through several family members over the decades.
In 2000, Dean and Sandra Porter purchased the property and transformed it into the Heritage Inn Bed and Breakfast, restoring the pioneer-era decor and antiques while modernizing amenities. The Heritage Inn continues to operate today, offering guests a glimpse into Snowflake’s Victorian-era heritage. The home is a contributing property within the Snowflake Townsite Historic District.
